This is the page for the future English version of Sjaler Nordfra – a lovely and unique knitting book containing 18 gorgeous shawls inspired by the wild Nordic nature and the folklore creates that inhabit this rugged landscape.

The English version will be named Nordic Shawls and there is currently a Kickstarter campaign though which the book can be pre-ordered.

The book also contains images photographed in the incredible Norwegian nature as well as watercolour illustrations of all 18 designs.

The book is photographed by Monica Bach Nielsen.

The books author and designer is Karen Skriver Lauger – a Danish knitting designer with a childhood spent all over Scandinavia and her roots solidly planted in the deep rich earth of the north.

Karen is also known online as Lykkefanten. She has been working as a hand knitting designer for 10 years and has published more that 60 designs, both independently and in collaboration with Danish and international yarn companies and knitting magazines.

Qivittoq are people, who have turned their back to society and choose a solitary existence in the mountains. They are said slowly to transform to ghostlike creatures cabable of taking animal form and having otherwordly powers. Unexplainable events are often attributed to the feared mountain walkers.

Gleipnir is the chain binding Fenris until Ragnarok. Thin and soft as a silken rope, yet stronger than any iron chain.
The dwarves forged Gleipnir from the sound of a cat's footfall, the beard of a woman, the roots of a mountain, the tendrons of a bear, the breath of a fish, and the spittle of a bird.
